Thirty-four percent changed countries, and employment was distributed across Northern and Western Europe, Asia Pacific, Africa and the Middle East, Southern Europe, South America, North America and Eastern Europe. The programme is designed around an international cohort and a recruiting model that is not dependent on one national labour market.

The leading US schools also have global brands and alumni networks, but their immediate post-MBA placements are far more concentrated in the United States. Wharton reports that 94% of Class of 2025 accepted jobs were in the US. Kellogg’s employment data shows the same 94% US share, while Booth reports 95% of accepted offers in the US.

That does not make an M7 MBA less global. If your plan is to build your career in New York, Chicago, Boston or the Bay Area, that concentration is a strength. If you want the option to move directly into London, Dubai, Singapore, Paris or another international market, INSEAD’s placement pattern is more geographically dispersed.

LBS sits closer to the European model. Its regular MBA Class of 2025 placed 43% of graduates in the UK, 12% in South East/East Asia, 12% in North America, 11% in Africa/Middle East, 10% in Latin America and 8% elsewhere in Europe. The summer internship can become the bridge into a new function or industry.

Wharton, Kellogg and other traditional M7 programmes build a full summer internship between the first and second academic years. That gives candidates time to test a new sector, build relevant experience and, in many cases, convert an internship into a full-time offer.

INSEAD handles this differently depending on intake. Students entering in January have a summer break that can be used for an internship. According to INSEAD’s 2025 employment data, 63% of the December graduating class completed a summer internship, project or startup tour. The August intake follows a continuous 10-month schedule, so candidates who know they need an internship should consider intake choice carefully.

At LilacBuds, this is one of the first questions we would ask before recommending a one-year or two-year route. If your target move depends on proving experience in a completely new function, the additional time in a two-year MBA may be part of the value rather than simply an added cost.

Post-study work rules should be part of the ROI calculation

For international students, return on investment depends not only on salary but also on how much time the destination gives you to build that post-MBA career.

In the US, eligible F-1 students can generally use up to 12 months of Optional Practical Training at each education level. Students with a qualifying STEM degree are eligible for a further 24-month STEM OPT extension. The exact STEM status of an MBA should always be checked at programme level rather than assumed.

In the UK, the Graduate visa lasts 18 months for applications made on or after January 1, 2027, compared with two years for applications made by December 31, 2026. Graduates may later be able to switch to another eligible route such as Skilled Worker.

These rules can change, and INSEAD graduates may recruit into many different countries rather than remain in France or Singapore. Visa planning should therefore follow your likely post-MBA geography, not simply the location of the campus.

Final takeaway

Neither format offers a universally better ROI. They create value in different ways. The European one-year model reduces time and opportunity cost and, in INSEAD’s case, offers unusually broad geographic placement. The M7 model requires a larger investment but provides deeper access to the US labour market, higher US salary levels and a valuable internship runway for career switchers.

The right decision should therefore come from the career you are trying to build, not from choosing between Europe and the US in the abstract.

At LilacBuds, our MBA consultants help applicants compare programmes through profile fit, career goals, geography, internship needs and real financial commitment, not rankings alone.
